CERTIFIED PLANNING ENGINEER

Planning engineers hold great importance in many different sectors. The APE is a showcase of top planning skills and many planners within the industry will gain great opportunities by becoming a member of a professional association such as APE. Here at APE, we help to develop planners’ expertise within the sector pathway they currently practice. Many planning engineers are not certified, as there is a lack of specialised associations which are organised only for planning engineers. APE has taken the responsibility to fill that gap and help create a professional environment for industry development and growth. We aim to bring all project control engineers and planning engineers under one umbrella certification, despite there being numerous areas of specialisms within the industry itself.

Even if you are or have been a member of other associations or chartered institutions, the APE invites you to join our lucrative membership opportunities specialising in planning engineers. Our Association helps our members to develop their skills and professional standards to meet the required competencies to progress in their career. The costs involved with membership and an annual subscription of the APE are extremely competitive and differentiate based on the economical background of the region in which you are applying.

Specialism:

You can choose any of the following specialisms. It will then be specified on your professional membership certificate that you work as a certified:

Professional Planner

Forensic Planner

Forensic Schedule Analyst

Expert Witness

These are the following pathway sectors:

Construction Planning

Urban (Town) Planning

Professional Member (MAPE)

Once you have qualified as an Associate you are eligible to progress to a Professional (full) membership following the route of your relevant pathway and specialism. You can also progress to Professional Membership after being a Professional Review Candidate, providing you meet the requirements. To become a Professional (full) member of the Association you need to show professional competencies in your last 3 years of your working experiences. These competencies should all meet the requirements of the Association to be successful.

This progression will require an assessment called Professional Review which includes an Assessment of Competence (AoC) and online interview. The Assessment of Competence (AoC) includes a competence report, a detailed CV and future CPD plan.

The pathway and specialism routes you choose will depend on your work experience and your qualifications within planning. However, all routes will involve presenting your competencies through the Professional Review to become a Professional (full) member of APE. To check the full details about the Professional Review you will need to check the guidelines in your pathway window.

Fellow Member (FAPE)

This is the highest standard of membership we offer here at APE. We offer this membership to professionals who are working within the planning and construction sectors with a high standard of professional achievements and expertise during their career.

To become a fellow of the APE you must meet the eligibility requirements within your pathway described above. The Fellow membership of the Association will enable you to work as an assessor within the association. This will include helping to update review the Professional Review and assist their colleagues with the process of the Professional Review within the relevant industries.
